I looked around and saw a child.
She was crippled and alone.
She peered with eyes so dim and haunting
As she nursed her broken bone.
I cried.
I couldn't find God there.
I looked around and saw a lawyer.
He was headed for the top
But though successful, just so empty
That he begged his heart to stop.
I cried.
I couldn't find God there.
But God was there.
I looked around and saw a mother.
She was weeping for her son.
She reached for him with desperate longing,
But she knew he'd never come.
I cried.
I couldn't find God there.
But God was there.
He was in me,
And I was there.
I looked around and saw a people,
Longing for a shred of hope.
They knew they faced such a disaster
That they lost the will to cope.
I cried.
I couldn't find God there.
But God was there.
He came to me,
And sent me there.
