I thought I wanted you to move,
To see you answer just one prayer,
But what I really longed to see was
Evidence that you were there.
I thought I wanted earthly wealth,
Enough to feel I am secure.
I was so scared of pain and hardship,
But with you I can endure.
For every time you answer yes,
A million dreams will not come true.
But you desire me to follow
Not for wonders, but for you.
I thought I wanted to be great,
To silence every cry or groan,
But what you promised me instead was
I would never be alone.
I thought I wanted fancy signs,
To tell the sick they would be healed,
But that would never satisfy me.
I just long to know you're real.
For every time I feel frustration,
As I watch what you just won't do,
You always give me strength to follow,
Not for wonders, but for you.
